the list of 9 for april 30, 2008: NINE FAMOUS PEOPLE WHOSE FIRST AND LAST NAMES RHYME This simple list needs no introduction, but I must say, every month I think, "I can't come up withany new list ideas" and then a few days later one appears - even if it's totally random andirrelevant like this one. That said, usually when I write one of these wacky, impersonalcompendiums, in my research I find that there have already been several online discussions aboutthe same thing. In this case, though, I can truly say that this is the first list ever written onthe Internet that brings together famous people whose first names rhyme with their last names. Andnote that I'm not including close calls like Steve Reeves or Chill Wills.
- FAY WRAY. Legendary star of the original King Kong.
- JACK BLACK. Legendary star of the King Kong remake.(Let's also not forget singer/bandleader Jack Mack, of Jack Mack and the Heart Attack.)
- HARRY CAREY. Highly prolific cowboy actor from the silentera who kept acting in movies until his death in 1947. His son, Harry Carey Jr., is another prolificcowboy actor still active today at 86. Neither is any relation to prolific porn star MaryCarey, though she deserves a mention.
- CHERI OTERI. One could argue that the "Saturday NightLive" actress doesn't explicitly have a rhyming name, but "Cheri Oteri" certainly makes more of arhyme than, say, Sean Bean or John Donne, whose names look like they rhyme until you say them aloud.
- SAM HAMM. Famous for being the screenwriter on TimBurton's 1989 Batman, but not much else.
- JACQUES CHIRAC. President of France, 1995-2007. The namerhymes when you pronounce it correctly.
- EVEL KNIEVEL. The validity of this inclusion is arguable, since "Evel" is not the true first name of the late motorcycle daredevil. But do you knowhim by any other name?
- WAVY GRAVY. Possibly the most famous hippie that everlived, in the sense that he's not really known for being anything other than a hippie. (You mayremember him, if at all, from his Woodstock antics and the Ben & Jerry's ice cream flavor namedafter him.) Again, not his real name, but who's going to raise a fuss? It's not like there are alot of celebrities out there who choose rhyming names for themselves (hip hop artists like SlickRick and Paul Wall notwithstanding).
- FAYE DUNAWAY. I opened this list with a famous Fay and thus I close it with a famous Faye.
